Energy Management With Controls
Date: Monday, October 6, 2008
Location: Simpkins Swim Center
979 17th Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA, 95062
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Description: Facility control systems can range in size from relatively simple local controls for a single piece of equipment to complex, integrated networks designed to coordinate, manage, and control all of the primary energy-using systems in multiple facilities and processes. This seminar covers how energy management systems (EMS) are constructed and how they work, an overview of communication networks, and how EMS are able to maximize energy-use savings. It focuses on how to maximize savings using the most current technology in control methods. In addition, this seminar includes a practical, systematic approach for identifying, designing, and planning the implementation of an energy management control system. Additional topics include conducting equipment studies and cost/benefits analysis. This seminar is recommended for those who ave some understanding of motors, process, and cooling systems and desire to know more about saving on operating costs with EMS. This is an intermediate level class.
Instructor Information: David Wylie is a Registered Professional Engineer in California who completed engineering school at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and because of his interest in cost analysis, completed his MBA at National University. He and his two partners began working together in the firm of ASW Engineering Management Consultants in 1976, and today they work actively with a staff of over 25 on energy engineering projects ranging from research, development, program design, measurement and analysis, to feasiblity studies of electrical/mechanical systems and energy supply for commerical and industrial facilities.
Mr. Wylie also holds a college teaching credential and has developed 20+ courses that address energy-efficiency systems which he teaches regularly for all the major California utility companies and many private company groups as well. He has an ability to take sophisticated engineering concepts and relate them in a way that both lay people and professionals can understand as he presents the materials in a practical way. Several of Mr. Wylie's articles have been published in trade magazines, and he has written a book titled New Refrigerants for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Systems that was published in 1996. ASW Engineering has received awards for innovations in engineering from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Southern California Edison, and California's former Governor. He is presently the President of the Southern California Association of Professional Energy Managers.
