Salinas Valley Truck-to-Rail Intermodal Feasibility Study

One of the key factors in maintaining the region's agricultural industry's competitiveness is to provide additional methods of shipping products to the main markets, which are primarily located in the eastern U.S. With upward pricing pressure on the trucking industry due to rising fuel costs, and other factors that are discussed in the Salinas Valley Truck-to-Rail report, agricultural shippers are looking for alternatives for their transportation needs; the rail system is one of the main options available. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the potential for building and operating a truck-to-rail intermodal facility to support the movement of perishable, agricultural products from this region.
